PROGRESSIVE BIGGIES
Hi,i am back with a new post,this time about some progressive metal bands(my faves) you should totally check out.The thing about progressive music is:it grows on you with time.At first it seems strange to most people(applicable to my first time as well) but when you play it on repeat and listen carefully you just get pulled into it little by little.Their lyrics have a lot of depth and realism.It is advised to listen to this kind of music when you are alone and in a quiet surrounding.This way you can understand better.
Listed below are some of these bands (in no such order):
1.)TOOL
You can call them pioneers of this genre.Headed by THE Maynard James Keenan on vocals,this 90's band from LA is best described by the word 'unstoppable'.They have a lot of people bitching about them and people complaining about censoring their work but it is amazing how they are never off track because of all the drama.They might come up with one album in a few years but that one album is enough to blow your mind and put you in a trance for years(yes,years).
Their first studio album:Undertow(1993)
Second SA(studio album;too lazy to this this again and again):Aenima(1996)
Third SA: Lateralus(2001)
Fourth and most recent SA:10,000 days(2006)
Start off with these songs: right in two,sober,aenima,third eye,vicarious,46 and 2
They are supposed to drop an album anytime this year so keep a tab and enjoy.
2.)TESSERACT
Originating from Milton Keynes,UK tesseracT(this is how they write it sometimes) was formed later in 2007 but in a few years they gained a massive fan-base.They and a couple other bands(like Meshuggah) are responsible for the emergence of the 'djent' style of heavy metal music which developed as a spinoff of traditional progressive metal.Generally,the word is used to refer to music that makes use of this sound,to the sound itself,or to the scene that revolves around it.
As of 2013 they have released two studio albums,ONE,and ALTERED STATE;two EPs ,concealing fate, and perspective. my favourite tesseract song is APRIL so you can check that out.
3.)MESHUGGAH
Formed as early as 1987,this band is as kickass as it's name suggests it is.They have released 7 studio albums,7 EPs and 8 music videos.If you are in a mood to headbang like crazy just tune in to BLEED.
4.)BREAKING ORBIT
This band was formed in Sydney,Australia in 2009.Listen to their album THE TIME TRAVELLER and you will know what tripping really is.
5.)DEAD LETTER CIRCUS.
Based in Brisbane,Australia,this band was formed in 2004 and will appeal to all those who like the band Karnivool(SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM).Their debut album,THIS IS WARNING is SO ADDICTIVE,I AM NOT KIDDING.Their second studio album,THE CATALYST FIRE was released on 9th august,2013.Listen to HERE WE DIVIDE(was my ringtone for over a month).
6.)INDUKTI
This band was formed in 1999 in Warsaw,Poland.Mariusz Duda of the polish band,Riverside,is featured on vocals in their debut album,S.U.S.A.R.This band tends to soothe me and i would suggest you listen to their latest album(released in 2009 though),IDMEN.
I can go on and on about so many other bands like SOEN,RISHLOO,TEXTURES,etc. since this genre of music is my best friend, but i am afraid you won't have so much of patience haha.So tune in again for my next post sometime next week.Stay stoked!
